“Strengthening Women’s Roles in Iraq’s Political Sphere to Achieve Transformative Change”

The College of Media at the University of Warith Al-Anbiyaa (peace be upon him) organized a scientific seminar titled “Enhancing the Role of Women in Iraqi Politics to Drive Change.” The seminar was delivered by faculty member Mr. Walaa Shaker Mahmoud, who explained that women’s political participation refers to their ability to engage in the political process at various levels—whether through elections, joining political parties, assuming legislative and executive positions, contributing to public policy formulation, or influencing public opinion. This participation represents an extension of a broader empowerment process that encompasses economic, social, and cultural dimensions.

The seminar, attended by a group of students and media professionals, highlighted the importance of strengthening women’s roles in political life, as this is considered a fundamental indicator of societal progress and the ability to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development. The presentation also reviewed the pivotal role played by Iraqi women after 2003, particularly as the Iraqi Constitution guarantees them a 25% representation in the Council of Representatives and grants them access to political life through the quota system.

The event further emphasized the significant impact of enhancing women's roles in Iraqi politics, noting that it contributes to improving the quality of public policies, building political and social balance, promoting social justice, and supporting development and the economy.
The seminar concluded by showcasing real examples of women who have played influential roles in political life.
